Monster Media Privacy Policies

Card & Catalog Privacy Policy
Effective 2026 October 6. This is an interim, plain-language policy. A fuller one will replace it before Card & Catalog is offered to public servers, and this page will show the new date when it does.
Card & Catalog (“the bot”, “we”) is a Discord app for book clubs, run by Monster Media, LLC. It runs a daily book game, answers book lookups from a catalog, and takes suggestions for books the catalog is missing. This page says what the bot keeps about you, why, and how to have it removed.
The short version
- The bot keeps only what it needs to run the game and the catalog desk.
- It does not read your server’s ordinary chat. It sees a message only when you use one of its commands or buttons.
- We do not sell your data, show ads, or build profiles of you.
- You can ask us to delete what we hold about you at any time.
What we collect
When you use a command or press a button, Discord sends us:
- your Discord user ID, and the name Discord shows for you in that server;
- the server and channel IDs where you used it;
- whether you have permission to manage the server (for the admin commands);
- what you typed or chose.
From that, we store:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your Discord user ID | To tie your entries, votes, and points to you, and to enforce the rules (one entry a round, one ballot, no voting for yourself) |
Your game entries (the text you submit with /play) | To show them, without your name, at the evening reveal |
| Your votes | To count them. Other members do not see who voted for what |
| Your points and leaderboard standing, per server | To run the monthly leaderboard |
Catalog suggestions and corrections you send with /catalog or the 🚩 button | So a person can review them and fix the catalog |
| Server and channel IDs, and the server’s settings | To know where to post the daily round |
| A record of admin actions (for example, a removed entry) | So moderation can be accounted for |
We do not collect your email address, IP address, direct messages, server message history, or anything from Discord beyond the above. The bot does not use Discord’s Message Content, Server Members, or Presence intents.
How we use it
Only to run the bot: the daily game, voting, the leaderboard, lookups, catalog suggestions, moderation, and keeping the service secure and working. We do not use it for advertising.
What other members can see
- Entries are posted in the server at the reveal without your name. If your entry wins, the bot names you as the winner.
- Leaderboards show your name and points in the server where you earned them.
- Votes are never shown by voter.
- Server admins can remove an entry.
Who we share it with
- Discord, because the bot works through it. Discord’s own privacy policy covers what Discord holds.
- Google Cloud, which hosts the bot and its database in the United States.
- Our book catalog. We send any suggestion or correction you submit to the catalog’s review queue, along with the book details you typed and a scrambled identifier instead of your Discord ID. The catalog never receives your Discord ID or name. Please do not put personal information in a suggestion.
We do not sell or rent personal data. We would disclose it only if the law required us to.
Logs
The bot’s operating logs are written without Discord IDs, names, or the text you typed. They use scrambled identifiers so that we can investigate a fault or abuse without the log identifying you on its own.
How long we keep it
We keep game and leaderboard data while the bot is installed in your server, and for 30 days after it is removed. Database backups roll off within 7 days.
Deleting your data
Email m0n5732m3d14@gmail.com from any address with your Discord user ID and the words “delete my data”. We will remove your entries, votes, points, and suggestions from the bot’s database within 30 days and tell the catalog to retire the scrambled identifier attached to your suggestions. Entries that were already posted in a server stay in that server’s Discord history without your name; a server admin can delete those messages.
You can also request a copy of what we hold about you, or request a correction, at the same address. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA; write to us, and we will honor them.
Age
Discord requires users to be at least 13, or older where local law requires. The bot is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. Book-club content can be mature; server admins decide which channels the game runs in.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top, and for significant changes, we will post a notice through the bot in the servers that use it.
